HELLO, ITS GOD CALLING... WILL YOU ACCEPT?
by Phil Pearlman
In this day and age, we find that there is lots of work to do
for the Lord. However, why is the work shared by so few in
congregations? Why does the largest ministry in a congregational
setting seem to be the ministry of Seat Warming? Youve heard
of it! "Brother or Sister So-and-So will take care of this. I
dont need to volunteer. I dont feel called." It seems that
it is always a few who share most of the work in a congregation.
At the very least, we are all called to spread the gospel as
stated in Mark 16:15, "Go into all the world and preach the
gospel to every creature." This is at the very base of our
belief, yet why do so many of us have a problem carrying
this out? We sit and wonder why our churches dont grow.
Why do we warm the chairs in our congregation, and let others
do this work?
Not all of us are called in the same way to serve the Lord.
Some of us are Pastors, some worship leaders, others ushers,
and so on. I believe that God has called all of us to serve
Him in some shape or fashion. Whether it is through one of
the gifts that He gives us, calling us to minister in some
fashion, or a calling to be a support in some other way.
We need to take that step of faith, and get busy! Theres
work to be done! The Lord has charged us with doing His work
as the very basic of belief in Him.
So what do we do? The next time an opportunity arises to help
serve the Lord, whether in general or in the congregation, give
up the Seat Warming ministry, as there are enough people who
already attend to this, and get busy helping the Lord in other
ways. When you hear, "Hello, Its God calling, will you accept
the charge?", just say "Yes!" |
