The Heart of Worship
by Phil Pearlman
Throughout the years of being a worship leader, I have learned
many things about worshipping The Lord. I have also observed many other worship leaders,
as well.
Being created to worship God, and to do it with all of our heart,
mind and strength is what we should be striving for. I hadnt
always done just that and realized that, until the past 6 years,
I was just singing about The Lord, and performing those favorite
songs to please man, not God.
One day, about 6 years ago, I felt The Lord impress upon me that
my purpose as a worship leader had been misguided and I was to
stop trying to please man in worship, turn my head towards Him,
and worship Him and Him alone. Dont get me wrong! I had a strong belief in The Lord
Yeshua back then, but I didnt really know how to worship Him.
Since then, it has made a huge difference in my own walk with The
Lord. I now have a closer relationship with Him, and as I worship
before Him as a worship leader, I have felt those in the
congregation giving all of themselves as well. I find myself with
tears in my eyes after our congregational worship each week. I now have a real soft spot
for understanding better how God would have
us exalt Him and lift His name high.
So many services that I have attended over the past few years, have revealed to me worship
leaders who sing about The Lord without ever worshipping to The Lord. Others I have seen,
are more interested in picking songs that head the popularity poll of the people attending
the congregation than prayerfully selecting praise and worship songs to please and exalt
God. I hear, Boy! I was blessed by the worship! Who is the worship for? Us to be blessed,
or God to be worshipped?
I guess we all need to search our hearts as to how weve been
offering our worship to The Lord; especially those of us who have
been called to lead others into the Throne-room of God. |
